Randy Cannon: Is Social Networking Important for Business?

Randy Cannon Social Networking

Randy Cannon can summarize the answer to this question about Social Networking with one word: yes!

You’ve all heard the saying, “It’s not about what you know; it’s about who you know.” This adage holds true in so many ways. Even before the pervasiveness of Electronic Social Networks, so many business depended on old fashion Word of Mouth as their method of marketing.

Today, a business can register for popular social networking websites and create a web presence to promote their goods and services. Even if a business forgoes creating their own profile, their loyal or disgruntled customers may write reviews about the business on ranking sites like Yelp which could either make or break the business, so either way you spin it, whether you are actively or passively involved, social networking is important for businesses.

Although, it may not take much to sign up for the different Social Networking websites, this task in itself could be very daunting considering how many networks exists. Here are a few listed on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_social_networking_websites

Some of them I’ve never even heard of. Some people are naturally gifted at the task, but as any serious social networking may tell you, Social Networking is hard labor. Social networking isn’t just about posting spam messages about your latest promotions. In order to be successful at social networking, a business must establish and nurture relationships. That means talking to your clients and not talking at them. That means listening to feedback instead of just generating a feed.
